Choosing Drumsticks
When I first went into a music store, even before I learned drums, I would always head straight for the drum center of the shop. There I would find more stocks than you play! I was very excited, but at the same time very intimidated. I had no clue what I was doing or how I was going to find the size stick let alone brand! I tried to find some online help but at the time there was very little to give.
What I found is that choosing what type and size drumsticks really comes down to a few things. First, pick a brand that suites your style of both music you want to play, and style in which you play it. Second, coordinate length of sticks with your drum setup. If you like your drums flat and your cymbals high and wide like I do, most likely you’ll want some longer sized sticks for that type of playing. If you’re more of a traditional player, stick to traditional sizes like 5b’s and 5a’s. The third step is to actually try some out. Get a feel for the different types that are in the length you require. Really find out if it’s better to play with thicker diameter sticks or thinner. From there you should be able to choose your perfect pair of drumsticks.
